By Stacey Hastersenn

If you're having problems with your skin, let's talk about a few tried and true skin care routines for different skin types.

Your skin care program needs to work right for you skin to look great so make sure it's geared toward your skin type. If your skin tends to be oily you'll want to avoid products for dry skin so your skin doesn't become confused. Different seasons will have different effects on your skin type, be sure you know your type well even in the changing seasons. Read on for some important tips for taking care of any skin type.

If you have oily skin, we know all about the difficulties you face each day. Your skin care needs to be very basic. You should use a gentle soap and water approach to cleansing your skin a few times every day. Try not to overdo the washing. Avoid high amounts of soap and never scrub hard because you can strip all the oil from your face.

When you are taking a shower or simply washing your face pay close attention to the temperature of the water you are using. Dermatologists recommend using only tepid water on the face for best results in the long term. Avoid the steaming hot water showers while standing with your face directly underneath the shower head. Removing all of the oil from your skin will only dry it out which is the effect hot water will have. You have tiny capillaries in your face that can be broken if you use cold water and shock your skin.

It is highly recommended that any bar soaps need to be made from natural ingredients. It doesn't matter what kind of skin you have, natural and gentle soaps are best. You honestly do not need to spend twenty dollars on a bar of soap at a boutique. You should only use bar soap on your face every once in a while. Even people with oily skin can get dried out if they use too much of it.

We suggest washing your hands first before washing your face. This morning wash will remove oils as well as night creams. If you use cleansers regularly it's important to remember not to over cleanse. You won't need to apply moisturizer if your skin tends to be oily but if it is normally dry try using a moisturizer after cleansing.

Dermatologists all over the world agree that the most important thing you can do to care for your skin is to choose a good sunscreen. You are undoubtedly aware of the damaging effects of the sun if you get too much of it. Even people who are not habitual sunbathers can suffer from sun damage--it builds up over the course of a lifetime. Don't believe anybody who tells you that you won't face the same risk by tanning in a salon.

If you have dry skin you probably have some sensitivities too. Don't let your skin become overly dry to avoid problems with sensitive skin. Even during the winter you will want to avoid harmful commercial products loaded with chemicals as you seek moisture for your skin. Petroleum and mineral oil found in commercial products are harmful to your face and should be replaced by natural alternatives.

All skin types need proper care because all skin types are capable of being damaged. A good beautician will tell you what kind of skin type you have if you do not already know. She will be able to help you develop a good skin care routine but be wary of being sold something that you do not need. When you have everything figured out, you might need to try a few different products to figure out what works best.

Once you've found the right product, stick with it. Be persistent you will eventually find the perfect product for your skin care.
